Lead scoring is giving each inquiry a number for how well it matches what a business wants, so the inquiries most likely to become customers are answered first.

How does lead scoring work?

Each answer an inquiry gives is worth points: more for a budget in your range, fewer for a timeline you cannot meet. The points add up to one score, often out of 100, and ranges of that score decide what happens next.

The things you score are the facts that decide whether you want the work. For most service businesses that is what the visitor needs, how much they can spend, when they need it, and whether they are the one who says yes.

What does a lead score look like?

Qualiform's design studio template is a real example. It splits the score five ways:

  • Budget fit: 30% of the score.
  • Type of work: 25%.
  • Timeline: 20%.
  • Decision authority: 15%.
  • How concrete the visitor is: 10%.

An inquiry with a budget above the studio's smallest project, a redesign, and a start next month earns close to the full 100. An inquiry with half the budget and no start date earns far less, and lands in a lower range with a different next step.

How is lead scoring different from lead qualification?

Qualification is the decision: is this inquiry a fit? Scoring is one way to make that decision the same way every time, so two people reading the same inquiry reach the same answer.

What makes a lead score worth trusting?

  • The same answers get the same score. If two people, or two runs of a tool, can score one inquiry differently, the number cannot be relied on.
  • Every score has a reason you can read. A number with no reason behind it cannot be checked or fixed.
  • A missing answer is not a bad answer. Counting a skipped question as zero punishes a visitor for what they did not say.

How does Qualiform score a lead?

With code, from criteria you set, and never by asking the AI for a number. The AI holds the conversation and saves each answer. Each scored question then checks its answer against your rules, and the shares add up to a score out of 100. Every lead shows a line explaining its score. Our privacy policy explains how scoring and routing are automated.

Common questions

Is lead scoring done by AI?

It can be, but it does not have to be. In Qualiform the AI holds the conversation and code calculates the score from your own criteria, so the same answers always get the same score.

What is a good lead score?

There is no number that is good everywhere. A score only means something against your own rules, so the useful question is which range gets which next step. Many businesses offer a call to the top range and a polite reply to the bottom one.

Does a missing answer lower a lead score?

It should not. A visitor who skips a question has not given a bad answer. In Qualiform a scored question with no answer is left out, and the score is worked out over the questions that were answered.
